You Maniac Review: Episodes 1-2 | Does It Live Up to the Hype?

So I officially gave up on my sanity the moment the premiere aired on August 29, 2026, because GMMTV went completely unhinged in the best possible way with the first week of one of the most anticipated BLs of 2026, You Maniac (เดี๋ยวจะรักซะให้บ้า). I was sitting there, chewing my lip, screaming at my screen at the audacity of these characters and their absolutely questionable life decisions. I knew right away that this was going to be my newest weekly addiction, and now I'm sitting here counting every minute until the next episode.
The whole setup is gloriously complicated, and honestly, only a crazy group of friends could come up with a plan like this. Our protagonist, Dean (William Jakrapat Kaewpanpong), is carefree, shameless, and loves the party scene. He flirts with anyone who catches his attention and proudly calls himself a "public service manwhore" who has no intention of settling down. But things get completely out of hand when his close friend Ten (Barcode Trinnasit Isarapongporn) asks him for a very big favor.
Ten wants to win over Pun (Kin Thanachai Sakchaicharoenkul), but Pun is hopelessly smitten with his reserved, ice-cold artist friend, Moth (Est Supha Sangaworawong). To clear the way for Ten, Dean offers to distract Moth and seduce him away from Pun. What starts as a harmless favor quickly turns into a game of real attraction when Moth rejects Dean's advances, turning his competitive ego into a challenge he can't resist.
If you binged Only Friends or even We Are, where relationships are messy and friendships are complicated, you need to put everything aside and binge this right now. This is the Thai BL for anyone whose heart has ever raced at the possibility of a romantic twist, or who simply lives for banter that will have you laughing your ass off.
You Maniac Episodes 1-2 Review: What I Loved Most
Episode 1 immediately won me over. Dean is so much fun and completely unabashed on screen. He has this innocent, almost boy-scout-like look, which makes it even funnier when he pulls out his usual flirting lines on Moth and gets met with nothing but complete coldness and disinterest. It's comedic bliss. You can see Dean trying to charm Moth while everyone else seems equally determined to get his attention, and that contrast instantly creates a spark between them.
But my favorite moment in Episode 1 is when Moth goes through Dean's social media and discovers that he's genuinely entertained by the cringe-worthy TikToks he's scrolling through. That tiny crack in Moth's frozen armor was all I needed to know that these two were going to completely destroy us.
By Episode 2, the tension has gone to 11 and beyond, especially when they cross paths at the bar. One of my favorite moments is watching Dean become visibly flustered when Moth starts ignoring his advances. I'm honestly just sitting there trying to survive the intense eye contact between William and Est during these quieter moments. Their banter also flows with such natural ease that it almost feels unscripted.
And then there's Pun and Moth's sweet, tender friendship. Their bond adds another emotional layer to everything that's happening, so even the possibility of heartbreak already carries some real weight. Knowing where this situation could go makes it a little scary, and I'm definitely not ready for it.
You Maniac Episodes 1-2: My Early Verdict
I'm very enamored with this BL, but let me be honest with you. There are a couple of things I wish were better. This is a bit of an "epic fail" because the side arrangement in Episode 1 feels a little rushed. The motivation that pushes Dean into this fake-dating scheme feels a little weak from the start, and when Ten pushes him into it, everything happens a bit too quickly.
Other than those little nitpicks, after these two episodes, I can say with 100% certainty: thumbs up! The magnetism between William and Est propels every scene effortlessly, making the fake-dating storyline a spicy and addictive watch.
You Maniac Episode 2 Ending and Episode 3 Setup
By the end of Episode 2, there really isn't a clear difference anymore between pretending to have feelings and actually having them. Dean starts to realize that his plan to distract Moth has gone much further than he ever expected. Doing a favor for a friend isn't as easy as he thought, and instead, Dean finds himself completely caught up in his own dilemma, drawn in by the small moments of warmth Moth shows him.
I think this is going to create even more conflict for Dean as his feelings gradually become harder and harder to ignore.
Meanwhile, things get much more serious when Pun begins to notice the subtle change between Dean and Moth. This sets up a huge emotional conflict for Episode 3, which is bound to bring jealousy, suspicion, and the fear of being caught in a lie.

I like that whenever Wan becomes overwhelmed or anxious, Third protects him without a moment's hesitation. At the same time, Third clearly still doesn't like having Wan around and gets irritated by his presence, which makes their dynamic even more entertaining to watch. Meanwhile, Nine continues to play the idealized, dreamy hero on screen, but his friendly smile starts to reveal a bit of a snake-like charm. The energy stays light and fun, thanks to the lovable agency juniors, Renji (Ryujin Tinnapat Tusnytraitep) and Time (Patji Jirachart Buspavanich), who are constantly teasing Wan.
